Old, overlooked firefall idea: In-depth tuning

Unchaining ourselves from the heavily reinforced thought patterns of damage per second will greatly benefit both the variety and viability of all build choices, by the way...

    As an "engineer" class...

I think we need deployables that do other things besides shoot. Perhaps a shock field network that links up existing "turrets" to form a line of electricity to deter bugs? How about deployable platforms? Perhaps deployable scout drones that give vision and recon data in a distant or obscured...

First actual thread, How about making it a tombstone for firefall?

Firefall was a pioneer in a sea of mediocrity. It was excruciating to see it collared and leashed into the same mold as the games it wasn't supposed to be. I hate to see it die, but I'm glad to see it put to rest.

    Our T.H.M.P.R. Acting Like a Squad-Mate

Allowing attack commands would just allow some people to use it as a siege weapon instead of it's intended purpose. I think any commands we're allowed should still be ultimately to the preservation and escape of the THMPR.

    Scouting Done Right!

There are two key ways to make the job of "scout" more impactful and enjoyable. The first is to differentiate between the amount of information each frame can have based on equipment choices. Recon specialists, for example, would want a more advanced computer with more detailed targeting data...

    Living/Evolving gear

Ultimately you're just talking about a piece of gear you can modify more extensively rather than multiple pieces of gear that add up to the same effect. In a standard vertical MMO this would be an "heirloom" or "legacy" item that grows with the player, but in Ember, it may be difficult to make...

    As an "engineer" class...

There is one feature of FF turrets I forgot to mention, which in retrospect is probably what made them so overpowered to begin with: hitscan. Turret fire was auto-tracking, auto-hit ballistics, meaning there was actually zero chance of dodging fire due to instant projectile travel time. This...

    As an "engineer" class...

... Okay now this is exactly what I'm warning against. Right here. If you loved being AFK for most of the battle, there is something wrong. I'm sorry, but we're going to disagree on this. The controllable turret was the ONLY part of that setup that I'm endorsing. the rest of it, in my...

Please create also a single-player way for the game to work better

1: This should be a given; it's almost automatic for any designer anywhere, really. 2: This, I would debate and elaborate on. I'm not a fan of "auto-group finders" in games, because they often cut out a key part of playing such an online game: looking for new people to play with. It's part of...

    Damaged Systems, (Frame Part-Specific) Penalties/Impairments

Some of us suggest things from other games because we feel they would make sense in this game and add an experience that could enrich the game. I wholeheartedly endorse simplicity in a lot of things, especially where complication would only cause frustration. With that said, however, there are...

    As an "engineer" class...

Now, here's a counterpoint to my "please no turrets" argument that I'm sure many will find odd: I actually LIKED the base engi's deployable anti-personnel turret because it was something you CONTROLLED. Auto-turrets have always been a sticking point for me, but I loved calling down that big ass...

    The Touchy Subject of Maps

Yeah. this part is precisely the problem I was referencing. The map gave you the exact horizontal location of he object, but made no move to inform you "oh hey, you can actually get to it by backtracking a few KM to this cave over here." If the game wanted us to hunt for things, fine, design...

    The Touchy Subject of Maps

Right. given the usual nature of the game, I mark it down as an oversight that was just never addressed. To me, it would've made more sense for markers to be placed at better starting points for the hunt, such as at the entrance to the cave referenced in my above example, rather than on the...

    quality of life options

Even better: HUD functionality can be tied to to your frame's computer system and it's physical condition, leading to a variety in HUD types...and possible malfunctions when damaged. You want immersion? See how immersive it feels to see your ammo count come across your hud as a scrambled mess...

    The Touchy Subject of Maps

Except you really couldn't. All you got was basically X and Y coordinates. If Z was a KM down in a labyrinth with the only entrance Several KM back the other way hidden by a path you would never take without directions, you were on your own finding that. Mind you, it's not the hunt that...

    quality of life options

See this is my point though: such hud elements should only be visible when they are updating (taking damage, running low on ammo, managing jet gauge, etc.) but fade and get out of the way when they're static. When they're not tracking any changes, they're taking up space we can reclaim. Now...

    Melee combat

Yeah. Movie was stupid, but yeah. I would accept both of these as options in Ember.

Oni Shouten's Oldie but Goodie Hideout Suggestion

This. Personal space in an MMO should come at a premium; that premium should not be arbitrary points counting toward an arbitrary number. It should be investments made regularly, even requiring an upkeep cost, honestly. Especially considering how tengential they'd be to the core gameplay...
