here's an idea: how about THMPR being able to self-defend. Im thinking of something like small shoulder-mounted pivoting lasers, Predator style.
Boy are you in for a treat.

They return to base, becoming not just an escort mission but possibly bumping into a major encounter. An encounter for *them* which the *players* assist with. Think Godzilla.

Boy you gotta love those escort missions especially when the main gameplay will be an escort mission. Woohoo /s

hahahah this reminds me of ExtraCredits skit just way more sarcastic xD
I do hope Mark doesn't make the THMPR the main part of the gameplay in this game. We all saw how the Escort missions in Firefall killed off interest, If Mark has some way to make it interesting (not the titan vs MEKA thing) then it could work, but I just don't know how escort missions could ever be fun.

I find the MEKA battle would be better if we could actually pilot the MEKA, so we ain't just helping it, we are controlling it (again like Infinite Stratos, would be so awesome to do).

wait, I thought escort part is mandatory ONLY IF you want it to drill longer for precious ores and then escort it to factory
I think you have to escort it to a factory no matter what. If I remember correctly from when Mark first mentioned a MEKA

then its bad idea, I think game should give player a choice: send MEK-A back in auto-mode (even let it fly for example), or escort it, like if escorting truly entertains a player why not? Maybe if we escort it we gain some bonus, for example to send MEK-A fly back in auto mode we need fuel and we could save it by escorting instead. So many possibilities at this point.
I mean we’re at the concept stage atm, so why not? lets theory-craft every dem aspect ^_^

Amazing concept, love this design more than the thumpers from FireFall. Its so more lively makes you want to really protect it because its humanoid too. I really feel this design. Only thing I wonder is where does it store the ores it collects? Otherwise awesome as and I love it.

Ah so were still calling it down from the skies? Does it fly on its own or via a shuttel?
It said on the 1st page that it would be via drop-ship. Also, big question here, if we have to escort it back, then it will need some of the following things to survive and move: extra large health pool, some damage reduction (flat and/or percentage), slow but constant self repair over time via built in nanites, repairable via players (not full rate), automated ranged weapons (T.H.M.P.R. should be able to mine at the same time its shoulder turrets kill) and jumpjets or thrusters to avoid ground hazards or obstuctions (if players get them then it should too), and a player configurable AI with different modes and commands (Passive Mode will ignore foes, the "hold still" command toggle will cause it to wait where it is).

I don't know whether this game will end up being Free To Play, Play To Not Grind, Pay Once And Play Forever, or Monthly Subscription, but I am hoping this ends up completely F2P as Firefall was without any nickel & dime gimmicks while having a way to play purely PvE.

Last I heard Ember is still going with the crowd-fund approach in multiple stages, so it is not free-to-play nor subscription-based. This should also naturally refrain it from being heavily grindy. PvE is also the main focus for now, I don't think PvP will be available in an early iteration/release.
