So, i'm going to be completely honest because i did a cool thing that was obvious and you can't read because it's in norwegian.

we had a norwegian writing thing where one task was to continue an excerpt from a novel. in this excerpt, a dude wakes, showers and is satisfied to be himself even though he's getting older. he makes breakfast, then his wife wakes up and she looks out the window while he reads the newspaper and they probably eat at some point. she's always tired in the morning, and she always looks out the window. they live in a forest.

now have i been watching/listening to too much roll20's "the sprawl", or is this obviously cyberpunk.

so they have two cars that are both from about 2015, back when cars didn't have to be computers.

in the newspaper someone bombed the government, killing only members of small parties that aren't explicitly business vs people (like religion parties. the norwegian right party is business, not religion.). in response, tons of left-radical people are arrested on suspicion of involvement. the wife is interested, and relieved when looking at the list of arrests and deaths.

then the orkla group's private army come in a helicopter and the wife performs several minor superhuman feats mostly to do with senses, and they start driving just as the orkla goons reach their house. she is secretly a cyberpunk! he's just anti-tech, and a plumber. cyberpunk doesn't eliminate the need for plumbers

Makes you wonder who the people really are, and the way low tech and high tech could co-exist!

WTF? they arrested left-wingers? Where are the signs boys, we got some demonstrating to do!
(left-winged -> social democrats, greens, socialists, communists, syndicalists, anarchists (far-left))

that would be a challenge yes. they have really different reasons for choosing off-line life: he fled from the tech itself while she needed somewhere she can't be tracked. he's going to be bothered by the augments, the secrets and their pursuers. for most of what i wrote he was just dumbfounded, though. the augments didn't come up. i basically showed the setting [even though the life of these people so far looks lower-tech than ours, it's the future other places], then the orkla people arrive and they have to flee in a car. the chapter ends when a bullet shatters the front windscreen.

it's late-stage transition into cyberpunk, so ultracapitalist just with a somewhat functioning government. in my head, the bombing was done specifically in order to frame the left. even the plumber can see that arresting 10-20 people on suspicion of bombing a location is shady. another shitty government thing featured is corp-wide weapons-permits (they get to decide which employees are authorized to carry automatic firearms).

once you get fully cyberpunk, it's mostly corporation against corporation. the corps employ private armies, plus deniable temp mercenaries. shadowrun has the berlin anarchist rebellion. berlin ended up split again, the corporations got most of it. it's hard to rebel against what is effectively a bunch of countries at once.
