just played the mage-knight board-game, which I just realized is associated with a franchise. it was a pain to set up and learn, and there was nothing to do but plan when it's not your turn. however, every turn I just barely managed to do something really cool. nothing I'm making has long turns and that's not changed, but I understand them now. it's an experience I've never had with another game.
the only games with a similar turn-length I can remember playing are the World's End series. long, low-impact turns with tons of randomness and long animations. even though the computer decides instantly, your turns take so much time and have so little impact it's a pain to play. it's got some cool mechanics, but often turns into either busywork or laggy kiting. I ragequit last time and I could go back and, like, input the 200-mouse-click answer to the cunning strategy-puzzle of having just your ranged-units boxed in by debuffers, but I won't because it would be a pain.
