That's funny. But I feel this is just social engineering.
The school used to be named after the 28th president before they changed it to fit in with the times since everyone is now paying attention to BLM. I'd bet the whole tree idea and their response was done only to attract attention such that new families will move into their district such that their student count increases and thus their government funding will increase.
Schools in this country has been participating in social engineering at this small level to ensure their survival. Schools that don't, end up dead. Even religion backed schools that don't do this type of crap to increase the numbers in their local church or temple which increases their student count, tend to get shafted by those higher ups that is funneling $$ to their school.
Like the elementary school I went to is a private catholic school. I remember a whole bunch new nuns and priests got pulled in to run the school after a bunch of white kids nearly drowned an Indian kid in the toliets and the parents/teachers tried to claim the Indian kid did it himself to kill himself because he couldn't speak English well. Even the cops at the time didn't believe that crap. This is like the 80's then. People got fired or retired and things changed.
I remember the pastor before he died talking about this and my family's contribution in helping this. My dad just didn't want to move again, quite a few other families did because of that crap. He told me that they had to bring in quite a few specialists to use social engineering to change a predominately racist white community into a welcoming soup of races. He said, they were times he just want to beat some geezers with a stick just they were so damn stupid. Of course he pissed them off enough that they left to infect other schools with their horrible ways and those schools shut down in time due to lack of students.
Schools got to react with the times and attract attention to themselves while not attracting the bad sort of attention. Schools don't want trouble makers and right now those that oppose BLM is trouble. But at the same time I feel they went too far. I guess they released they didn't have much to attract attention especially since they recently changed the school name.
