Ideas On Fighting Category 5 Kaiju

Ok, so the question here is how might we actually fight giant kaiju the size of a small mountain? If its simply a massive enemy that has lots of raw health, then it feels less unique/special and more like a scaled up boss enemy (like in WoW, where they literally just scale the models up to huge sizes half the time and pump up its health/damage). I feel like this type of fight should have more mechanically interesting and unique methods of fighting and killing it, and preferably far more epic feeling. So, what types of ideas have I come up with for how a fight might work? Well here's a few, but I'm also curious to see what others might come up with.

1. Super massive kaiju vs super massive machine.
This one has the idea that the enemy kaiju can pretty much just tear through bases almost instantly and doesnt even stop to deal with them, it can just walk through/over them and get the job done. So in order to stop and really defend against it the humans bring out some type of massive war walkers of their own that players must have invested in beforehand. These giant slow machines will act as a patrolling bullwark in the zone they are voted to be placed into (you can't just build one for each zone). So when the category 5 kaiju comes into its zone, it will encounter this massive mobile fortress of sorts. I was thinking something like this but with 6+ legs instead of tracks, both for tech consistency and for easy of moving it around the world. It would be a mobile spawner/base and artillery unit that effectively makes its zone a safe mining zone with very rare enemy attacks (though when they do come they'll be big, or stealthy in nature).

This thing gets right up in front of the kaiju and they start duking it out, the kaiju punches and slams and stabs into it, and it tries to hold the kaiju in place and blow it to pieces. Its across the map artillery having gotten the kaijus attention in the first place. Problem is it will lose. The kaiju has a powerful shield that just shrugs off these massive explosive rounds, only dazing it for a second or two, so head on it'll lose. But this gives the players a chance to climb onto the kaiju and shadow of collussus style find its weak points, shoot its shield generators/vents/reactors/cybernetics that are poking out and as a result open up holes in its defenses. First you knock out side limbs generators and once a shield is down the giant walker will fire its secondary cannons, obliterating that limb and sending flesh and cybernetic bits the size of houses raining down half way across the map. Each limb that breaks means more secondary reactors built into the kaiju are gone, so more stress is put on the central bodies units and at the end they start to overheat making their vents vulnerable. Once the player destroyes them the
main shield goes down and the main cannon can finally fire a shot that penetrates the kaiju, turning it into a fleshy/metally/bony volcano eruption. Map and giant walker are covered in a red blood layer and it all ends with a massive flashy bang and clear feeling that a massive fight just happened, giant corpse and blood everywhere being the clear reminder as players scramble to salvage bits of loot. For the record the class 5 has multiple point defense guns, tentacles (with cybernticly attached chainsaws on them), and smaller units on it that help to fight off players, and it can also try to swipe stuff off with another limb if its got one, requiring everyone to get out of there or be instantly crushed.
This could also be done with rather than a military/combat walker/machine a super massive mining machine with extra big drill/bucket wheel excavator, etc...
Worth saying if you lose this one, the kaiju will only stay around for a few zones before disappearing if not killed, so just because you lose a giant war walker/fortress doesn't mean every zone is screwed/reset till you build another one some weeks later or something.

2. Escort the THMPR.
This one requires fewer special art assets so it might be more desirable, but would take some custom animations on some units specifically for this, still, obviously way less effort than the massive mech option (though less cool imo). The idea here is that you go to a nearby base where they airdrop in some giant spike/stake bombs. These things are huge and require a THMPR to carry them. Players must pull out their THMPRs and have them grab these, and then escort them to the enemy. First you'll need to criple the enemies ankles or such by hitting tendos or exposed cybernetic parts or whatever, and thus slowing it down (at least for a short while). During this time you must escort your thmpr to a disabled limb so it can try to climb up the limb (shadow of the collosus style again) to a weak spot where players blow off an armor plate from (probably by hitting individual bolts that attached it to the under parts). If you can get it there and keep the category 5 from swatting it off of it, or other enemies from killing it, it will smash the giant spike into the kaiju, put its drill into the back port and start spinning, the spike will be "drilled" into the limb after a few seconds and then the THMPR does a nice epic leap off of the limb (pretty high up btw) before landing on the ground (super hero landing!) and then the spike bomb explodes, tearing off that limb from the kaiju, before the THMPR stands up and is ready to move again. Do this for each limb and eventually the enemy can't move anymore, now you can safely escort some onto its back where the *spine/hear/main reactor/insert obvious glowing weak spot here*, is located. And this killing it, possibly with a massive explosion if it had a reactor there.

3. Orbital Artillery, and why its not normally used.
In this one we have the giant kaiju, but this time down on the ground its just us players in omniframes (and maybe our THMPRs to help attack more conventionally, five of those guys ganging up on an ankle could probably do some damage). In this one you need to slow the enemy by hitting exposed joints/weak areas. This will slow it but it stays mobile. Now you also need to go after some jamming/electronic warfare equipment on it. Doing so will make it both slow enough to hit, and more or less identifiable to the orbital artillery to engage it, as without that it can't see/track it properly, and it could move to fast to be hit by random shots.
For the first few times it'll still manage to "avoid" the artillery from being a direct hit though, pushing off with a limb to move its main body out of the way at the last moment. The result being the artillery would hit the limb it pushed off with. The artillery in question would be a rod from god, giant metal spikes/rods that are dropped from orbit and that hit with massive amounts of kinetic force. Being a bit lower gravity and dropped from lower orbit the effect isn't as prominent as we might expect on Earth, but still potent.
The result is the limb that gets hit is skewered through and the massive pole some 50 meters long is now embedded in the ground and pinning that limb to it. Upon landing they would shake the entire map with a dust shock wave that covers the entire thing as well. All bases/buildings/units on the ground take a bit of damage as well though, so think of it as a massive queue for everyone to jump when these drop in, and the reason they don't just carpet bomb the entire area with them.
So, now the category 5 will be pinned, and end up tearing itself free by ripping the limb off at the point of penetration as it keeps pulling to free itself but the penetrating rod just don't give a sh*t.
So after its lost each of its limbs to this, or all but one it can use to barely crawl drag itself around with and can no longer dodge at the last second, the final one will finally strike right into the central body and kill it for good. Throughought the fight it will create new jammer units/parts on it/around it that must be killed, thus making sure players constantly have something to do fighting it between rods, all while trying not to be killed by the giant kaijus itself, both from its smaller defensive bits in local areas or its larger limbs/attacks that cover entire areas of itself/the map (but are clearly telegraphed).

I think once the project is past beginning and base development to hit on this kond of awesomeness, a couple ideas could be seen through nicely. I like the orbital idea based on region expansion and players securing it to have access to a defense like that.

I would like to see the biggest baddies like this have a learning curve for players. Find out through battles which armaments are most lethal to bases and have weaknesses to specific attacks. Not that it still can't be beaten, but to have global squads makeups and call outs to implement strategies to safe guard the territory would blow me away.

Have an evolution to the stages. Disabling an arm (tentacle what ever) is one thing. But break down generator locations for weaker shields and regen and less effective energy weapons would be one approach. Maybe the kaiju would focus more on balistics then. Destroy a leg and bring it down. Here would be the evolution aspect as it could become more defensive and change weaponry into more artillery. Depending on just how big they can get, have a hive approach for us to go offensive in. Break through the outer shell to kill the core.

Ok no more rambling from me. Tough to develop any of this until well down the road, folks.

1) one way to fight a kaiju could be hacking the enemy control centers or even base.
This could be done by brute force or for a more planned and safer option using stealth to infiltrate and hack.
If you are caught, the enemy would capture you and use your tech briefly in battle and this could be especially scary if a stealthed kaiju was to be.

Hacking wouldn't give complete control however it could disarm the heavy weaponry, change direction, disable shield for a certain time, even use its weapons, until the computers have learned and lock so that it needs to be re-hack again (certain amount of time as hacking gets tougher the more you hack!. The big one i think is if the hacking is unsuccessful too many times it could lock the systems this would mean that during this time the hacker cannot do anything.

2) luring/baiting is another way it wont be really fighting but a distraction.
A Decoy shape-shifting tech could be used on a target, even add a trap such as the sticky-net the likely hood of the kajiu attacking the decoy is a 50-50 chance.

If successful it would go after the decoy giving time to either hit another target or plan a trap/ambush

The down side is the health of the decoy would eventually be gone but with some upgrades it could be increased though eventually be destroyed moving on towards the real target!
The Sticky-net is a gunky mesh like substance that is fired out from air support, this reduces the vision of the kaiju and makes the weaponry less effective. This cannot be spammed and be used sparingly when needed.

3) The tortoise
They are nick named that for a reason slow and incredibly armored their main weakness is their inside!

Its main strength is its durability & their frontal weapon firing a ultra high energy projectile beam which retracts, or can extend out of the shell into the open meaning this is the most vulnerable the weapon is. In this case timing to go offensive is vital, but when it retracts and goes inside it is much more vulnerable to the enemy ground troops who have easier access since it is on the ground because its legs retract keeping it rooted down to the ground.

Protection of the tortoise would increase the likely hood of its survivability.

I want to use a Dyson Sphere to power my super weapon. Don't worry, I'll put it on the lowest power setting. It shouldn't make a hole to big on the planet I'm aiming at. Maybe... kind of... Ok let's just say make sure you are not on the same quarter of the planet I'm aiming at.

P.s. for the people who don't know what a Dyson Sphere is.

I like the idea that when a kaiju is spotted, everyone in the immediate area is assigned a squad, one member has to get a shaped charge/penetrating bomb. everyone else in the squad has to protect the carrier/become the carrier when the first dies.

Then the squad needs to get to a specific limb then plant and detonate the bomb. damaging and eventually severing a limb. rinse and repeat till the kaiju is immobile then everyone gets together for the final run at the brain case.

Also Kaiju shouldn't just vanish if we fail, it should go on to the next outpost until the players actually manage to kill it.

I am confident the Kaiju will keep moving if the players fail due to the world combat aspect that has been announced. Ala red map in firefall. Lovin the charges and next man up idea dude.

What about fighting the monsters from the inside-out? I mean if we are really talking about thing that are the size of mountains, than couldn't we go inside their bodies and attack their key parts? For example, while most people are trying to fight it from the outside others, like myself who enjoy things like spec ops, might find ways get inside of the monster's body to attack the heart(s) and/or brain(s) directly.

The reason for the S's is because in real life there are lots of lifeforms with more than one heart and more than one brain. For example a lot of bugs have 3 different brains. And octopuses have 3 hearts and 9 brains. And because of things like this it is possible for somethings to live running around for days and even weeks without an head *looking at things like cockroachs, ants, and wasp*. And keeping that in mind all those games and movies where you see people just take out the head of the monster or alien to win the fight only really works if they have one brain that controls everything like humans do. Because something like a wasp can still fly around and sting things just fine without an head.

That why as a person who likes to play as assassins and snipers in games, I value things like a bestiary and medical data on the enemies. Meaning that researching and studying the enemies is a good idea if you want to know what they are weak to and what part of the body to aim for. Because as pointed out before, a good number of things don't just die just because you take off their head.

I saw this and thought what if the kaiju could be flipped over or tripped over?
would it be vulnerable for a short time? could it start rocking and then turning into a huge ball of
chaos?

Would shooting it unleash smaller versions of itself like nano-kaiju attacking them before it helps the big kajiu get up? hmm

If the big kaiju was attacked and split to several nano-kaiju not killing it fast enough would have them escape but come back bigger the next time it returns??

just thoughts :D

That reminds me. We have not thought of things like symbiosis. Where smaller things live on and/or inside the giant monster to help it in someway. So now I'm thinking about things like this ants just sized up to kaiju levels.

Also, just throwing it out there, zombies. I mean realistic zombies. And for the people who didn't know that zombies really do exist in real life. Here is just an example of how smaller lifeforms and take over the bodies of larger ones.

We all be worrying about the big kaiju but its those smaller kaiju's that can cause more problems too i like it !!

I'd like to see this and see some creepy zombie

got me thinking of

Was thinking if we killed the main kaiju the outshell would be gone like the skin of the snake shedding and a different kaiju would present itself and the process repeats. Depending on how many times for example 3-4 times but with the kaiju changing its characteristics and capabilities randomly on each kaiju that presents when killed if that makes sense :D

The funny thing about this is besides using weapons stuff to kill them. I also kind of want to use their own biology against them. When comes to the size of animals small changes can make a big difference in terms of health and life. So what would happen if you I shot a large amount of stimulants into a monster of that size? Would it overheat and die of exhaustion? Or would it do something else?

I started to write something than realized it would be way to long to explain how the size of an animal is effected by things like gravity and heat. So here are 2 videos explain why size matters when comes to things like that.

That makes alot of sense so the smaller opponents would be faster and much hungrier while the larger be slower.
Do the smaller opponents live on the bigger opponent or inside like the baby maybe both?

This made me think of what would happen if you gave something big some laxatives, would it poop more than someone that is smaller, then it depends how much they ate but could it be that the volume of the opponent too?
If the laxatives are like a nanobot that messes them up from inside which can be controlled however in the inside there are smaller opponents to battle!

That got me thinking of this film

I saw this video and was hoping that agile mech's would be fast enough to do gun kata!!!

Great to take out the vast mobs while the heavies do their thing.

We already know a few ways for dealing with giant monsters:

Power Rangers - Everyone calls down his/her own THMPR, and they combine into Megazo... I mean MegaTHMPR
Evolution - Just apply some Head and Shoulders (or the Em8er equivalent, Visor and Wings)
Star Wars - Use cables to tie the legs together to immobilize and/or make the kaiju trip (bonus collateral damage)
Fifth Element - Use the four elements and Milla Jovovich (or the equivalent, Aero) to blast it to pieces

And on the serious note:

Pre-fight:
Kauji appears, we get a notification that command started charging an orbital cannon (for examle Planetside 2 orbital strike but a bit prettier and flashier), and we should weaken the kaiju, because the cannon can't take it out by itself.
The strength of the orbital cannon should scale with the overall development level of the area the kaiju is attacking -> Small bases will have weaker strikes -> player has to do more damage.

Phase 1:
At the beggining of the fight, the kaiju should be near invincible and is marching slowly towards the closest base, and to weaken its defenses, we should fly into it and shoot it from within. While one team is fighting inside it, the other team outside should try to slow down its progress (the cables ;) ).

Phase 2:
After the team inside finished its job, the kaiju would become vulnerable, in exchange it would speed up its movement. To slow it down, we'd have to shoot/cut down its limbs (if it has any...), until its health and speed falls under a certain point.

Phase 3:
As a last stand, the kaiju would focus on players/THMPRs instead of the base(s), using AoE attacks and destroying the area. When the orbital cannon is charged or the kaijus health is low enough, command urges players to disengage, as they will attempt to finish the fight with the orbital cannon.

End:
If the kaiju dies, then gg, you get loot and a shiny badge.

If it survived with relatively good health, his attack on the base will continue, and you have to kill it without the help of the orbital cannon. If you cannot kill it, the base will be lost and the kaiju departs to wherever it came from.

If it survived with relatively low health, it will "self-destruct", killing players and destroying the area in a large circle - but you will get the loot.
