Now, we, I (Nunaden/7ux0n0) and @Arca9 (Arca9/Mr Arca9), randomly worked out this concept of an animal on discord after lava fishes got mentioned and i started to nag that fishes can't exists in lava. Quite some stuff isn't worked out, and we tried to keep stuff scientific plausible. @Grummz we would appreciate it when you take a look, Ronin @Ronyn too. and please ignore typos, im a bit excited xD
Environment: Volcanoes and Ice plains (hunting).
Can survive in the sub-5 minute lava surges and then goes and hunts in the cold area.
Biology: The creature posses a shell made of a carbonate (or pure carbon, not sure) and consists of two layers being being connected by tiny beams made of material with low energy transfer, the lower part of the beams is filled with nerves that can feel temperature, pressure and pain when damaged. between the two layers a dense gas with low energy transfer is stored which heats up when in lava, gets pumped into sacks filled with a fluid capable of storing great amounts of energy over long time. The energy will be used to stay warm in the cold zones while hunting. Chambers are present under the second layer which can pump in and out the gases like a heart to cool the shell and to store the energy. They also allow the creature to regulated the pressure in its shell.

Any wounds are healed with soemthing close to scurf that dies off after the wound is healed, in that time the animal cant enter the lava nor can it leave into cold areas. They hunt in the "butter" zone and go a bit farther away when the temperature rise of the lava surge allows it.
The shell can be moved at certain parts, mostly over the head and the legs, and is flexible to a degree.
The creature exists in a male and female form. the pregnancy is around 14 months with only 1 offspring. the offspring grows up just to a small size when in the belly, after birth the baby only grows slowly untill the shell is hardened and able to survive short periods of lava itself. in the meanwhile the offspring is protected by the mother's shell during lava surges. after the shell is hardened a rapid grows kicks in.
The creatures live in small packs. They can be found great masses while lava surges though. They hunt smaller predators but are not apex predators (they are usually not hunted though). They are able to feed any pack members that are not able to hunt themselves by "vomiting" the food.
This stuff is, like mentioned before, not finished.
