I've tried to do that myself, after seeing that .gif somewhere. All I got was a burnt spot on the CD.

burnt cd's are not so shiny although make for great ninja discs to hit play-dough targets

Old cd's can be used for decorations and deters some animals away from the berries if hanging off the branches!
