For Your Consideration: The Music of the Gatestriders

Now, some of these are more fitting than the others. And they aren't in any particular order, except for the very first one. THAT one, in particular, might as well be the theme of EM-8ER, right there. You'll see! :D

And some have sounds that fit a sci-fi, mecha-combat, alien planet environment more. Lyrics are easy enough to find.

1. Within Temptation ft. Tarja - Paradise (What About Us) -> (Just perfect.)

2. Breaking Benjamin - Blow Me Away -> (It's hype!)

3. Xenoterra - Retribution -> (Their name, alone, really.)

4. Shattered Skies - Chasing After Time (This comment was written last.)

5. Stratovarius - Hunting High and Low -> (Clue is in the title of the song.)

6. Amaranthe - Nexus -> (Look, I'm not writing these comments in order and I don't have one for every song, okay!)

7. Atreyu - Storm to Pass -> (Hopes of a Reaper.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq6zRL8EXkY

8. Atreyu - In Our Wake -> (Musing of a Reaper?)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjzgpsfz4E8

9. Excalion – Quicksilver -> (And ode to Omni-Frames)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mZKgjez9yY

10. Excalion - Man Alive -> ("Ballad" of A Reaper.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4W3ao0g6aL0

11. Freedom Call - Dimensions -> (Because Tsi-Hu and dimensions and stuff.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae-n3vq7QmU

12. Primal Fear - Silver & Gold -> (Silver and gold and all kinds of metals, of course. I prefer silver to gold, though.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hIx4B3lxBQ

13. Pillar - Frontline -> (Where the action is, duh!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTEkfsGnRTA

14. Pillar - For The Love Of The Game (This game. Also, chances of a life-time Reapers won't pass up.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2VOZ8lHkjk

15. Pillar - Throwdown (Brawl? People, frames and MEK-As going toe to toe and pound for pound.)

We could/should definitely mix retro, sax, funk, piano, jazz...etc. with...electronics, metal, synth-wave, future-pop...etc. Oddest of combinations. Who knows how cool they can sound together. I don't listen to classical and/or piano by itself, but combine it with a certain something and you'll get this:

Love how they play one, then, the other and then together. Blew my mind how good it sounds. Not quite for a sci-fi setting. Admittedly. But, just an example of how combining instruments from two different genres/styles can be awesome.

Also, some songs just naturally have instruments and briefly produce such sounds that gives you shivers, makes the hair on your arms stand up. They sound alien. Here:

01:20-01:25 Listen to that 5 seconds, just before the singing.

I wanna hear more of that ghostly...I don't even know what to call it. Maybe it's not even produced with an instrument, but by humming. Either way, it gives you a sense of mysticism, like you're in another world or you're about to be taken there. Definitely fits a sci-fi setting. I think that had to be the band's intent with it, surely. Given the theme of the song. And the zeitgeist back then. The sense of wonder and expectations in the era of the Space Race. Something that was felt by the people within the game's lore, as well.

And slower, calmer (and calming) music without any lyrics, like the ones from Tangerine Dream (I only have Love on a Real Train from then, at the moment), could definitely be playing in the background during peaceful exploration, then, switch to a harder, faster music (or a harder, faster version of the same track, with some added instruments even).

More ominous music, like the last one in your examples @Pandagnome , can build tension during missions, even during debriefings, leading up to some action/encounter/revelation...etc.

Yess! wonder that too some may sound chaotic which may fit certain parts and others could sound like a good adventure etc.

Very interested to hear this with how the music changes with such things as the enviroment/ weather pattern altering to how the tension builds up on those eerie and dangerous encounters etc etc

I cannot wait for the dynamic music as you feel you are actually in this strange world.
