I wonder if there is something that navigates by using differences in relative speed of lightcoming from different directions. so it knows east from west because light that comes from the east is relatively faster, because of the rotation of the earth.

actually I don't think you could evolve this. even if the sensory equipment is possible, everything rotates in around something else. Earth's velocity around the sun is on average about 46 times as fast as the rotation of its crust around its core. and the Sun orbits the center of the Milky Way on average about 7.2 times as fast as Earth orbits the Sun. things evolve because they're useful even when primitive, but this would require high intelligence or a very lucky combination of orbits to work.
