This thread is all about projectiles be they thrown by hand or fired by a weapon. Everything from snowballs to rods from god. The only reason I bring this topic to is because of the sci-if setting and trying to think about technology level of the game. Sure you can have super advanced guns and cannons, but they are useless without ammo. And just like in real life, some times the only thing that makes a gun useful or not is the types of ammo it can use. We all know how normal bullets work so no need to go into them in this thread. So let's talk about things like smart ammo, trick arrows, and living/programmable rounds. What types of ammo would you like to see in the game, be they realistic or fantasy. No need to go into what type of weapon can use them unless the weapon itself is linked to how the ammo works.

To start things off.
Laser guided bullets - In real life we have laser guided bullets that can make a curve path in the air to follow the laser sights of your gun. This allows the bullet to follow moving targeting or to curve around trees and corners.

Computer controlled grenades - In real life we have computer controlled grenades where a person can set the condition to which an grenade will go off. Be it only after a set time limit, or distance traveled, or set distance from the target and/or ground (explosions that happen in mid-air often do more damage than ones that happen on the ground. This gives the person more control over when and where the explosion will happen lowering the risk of it doing something they don't want. Like a SWAT team throwing as a grenade into a window and hiving to go off before it hits the ground to lower the risk of it doing somethings like bouncing or rolling to the wrong place or someone else kicking or throwing to away before it goes off. If the grenade is fired from a gun the camera/laser sights on the gun can be used to program as they are being fired.

Explosive arrows and spears - Useful for fighting monsters with thick skin. The arrow or spear can be set up in a way that is only goes off after it has been pushed so far into a target for maximum effect. This would open a much larger hole in the skin and underlying tissue than normal. Aiding in both increased bleeding to the area (helping to speed up blood lost) and also lowering defense of target as now there is no skin protection that part of the body from follow up attacks.

Nano Tech Healing Bullets - These bullets are only to be used in emergencies can be fired from any gun that uses solid rounds. The nanobots that make up the round are only programmed to heal and repair the human body. If used on any other lifeforms other than humans the nanobots will eat away at the body in much the same way as it would with harmful viruses, bacteria, and parasites leaving behind a basic materials and nutrients that the human body can use for energy and repairs as part of the human body's recycling system. Side Note, It is a known fact that people lost on planets with lifeforms of different makeup to humans to as to make them indigestible have used these rounds to turn those lifeforms into a kind of nutrient paste they can eat to survive. Although it is possible to live off of eating nothing but nutrient paste, this is ill advised do to mental health. As there is no possible way nutrient paste taste good to humans, and no one enjoys eating it.

Pheromone lure grenade - Grenades full of pheromones to lure target lifeforms to an area. Going by what pheromones are used it can be just a peaceful gathering to an all out war over food and dominance. One can put pheromones onto themselves and their omniframe to make them less likely to be attacked by wildlife and use difference pheromones on to make a target an enemy. It is key that you know which is which if you are in or near large nest of swarming insects or animals that swarm like insects. Be sure to match your pheromones to theirs so they don't see you as an enemy.

The Spydors this is a small robotic spider that can be launched they will stick to surfaces. While they are stuck to the object or opponent the spider like unit blasts an electrical web messing up their weapons but usually by then the spider may be spotted.

Spyder also clones access codes to enter buildings transferring it back to the owner it is a spys handy tool.

Slippery seth - this is a nanotech liquid that can be shot out to make things slip around see a cliff want them to go bye bye place some of that slippery seth and give them a little push see you later opponent \o.

Also comes great if you want to slide quicker down hills with low friction the effect of slippery seth will go once the liquid vanishes.

Mek launch in one of you slots you can swap for this device that can turn you into a live projectile you the mek. However heavy meks can withstand the most punishment so they would be ideal to ram into things more.

Others could use this as a way to take out mobs or sneak past things. The mek launch uses stored power from your power meter once held and charged can propel the player in any direction they look at.

Some would say using the mek launch then the jump pad then the glider could notice incredible speeds ideal for straights but any sharp turns or twists well would not be advised!

Tritector - think of this as a projector with 3 beams forming a triangle the tritector protects targets any projectile that go past the beams are absorbed it is ideal for fast moving things but anything that moves slow would be able to move inside the tritector.

This was used by engineers to stop blasts from containers exploding and damaging them it has become a device to also protect pilots too so a friendly Mek could fire the tritector beams forming a barrier to help them until they are safe.

1. ”Anarchy” Neuro-hallucinogenic grenade/rocket/bomb - Won’t likely to kill anyone directly, but it’ll cause a free-for-all against anyone affected.

2. Corrosive rounds/grenade/rockets - Armor’s too tough against your spear? Melt it away Instead to reveal a soft underbelly.

3. Cluster munitions - Turns your enemies into extra chunky salsa mess. Just don’t forget to clean up.

4. Factory rejected rockets - They have erratic flight paths and unpredictable fuses, but they pack a wallop. I wouldn’t fire your rocket launcher with this unless RNG is in your favor.

5. Nerve gas munitions - Okay, at this point, maybe the Geneva Conventions was a good idea for once...

6. Biobomb non-metallic landmines - Is this legal?

7. Rocket propelled chainsaw - You’re more of a sadist, not a soldier.

Great idea - this tech is not so removed from todays research...

Awesome - this would be a great CC - pratical and so much fun to watch.

My idea for a close-to- perfect projectile would be the 'Transportation' bullet. Just like the one seen in a DS9 episode (can't remember name).

None lethal or less lethal projectile:

- Googoo gaagaa missile fire a missile that hits a target upon impact turning the target into a helpless baby by its actions as it crawls or lays on its back waving its arms and legs making strange noises
this gives you time for options

* Trap target
* Scan target
* Eliminate target
* Transport target
* To make target sleep
* Mind control target

- Dronesy a portable drone that you can control you can see what the drone sees and annoy opponents with sound waves and unleashes swarms of nano boos they are bees that use stealth cloaking tech beware if the drone is captured the drone can be used against you and harass you :O

Concussion round - Ammo designed to blunt force trauma to target with goal of pushing the target away and/or knocking it out rather than killing it. There are different types of this ammo each focusing on differing degrees of the three main goals of this ammo; disabling the target, pushing back the target, holding the target in place. Note: The rounds that are designed to hold targets in place are only effective if they can anchor themselves into something solid. This type of ammo is one of the favorites of bounty hunters as they can pin targets to a wall or the ground without causing long term damage to them.

Two Stage Emergency Anchor - These reusable anchors are often found in most emergency space travel kits and are part of backup emergency docking systems for ships. They can be fired safely at any range. The main reason for this self attaching anchors help to give people a safety line if they find themselves adrift in space or if a ship is unable to maneuver properly. Most of the time in emergencies humans use them to attach themselves to their ship or other near by body to keep from drifting off and being lost. Ships sized ones are often used to attach the ship to another ship or other large body to keep from doing something like spinning out of control. Because of the fighting on Em-8er some pilots have started to use some of the emergency anchors designed for small ships as weapons. After emergency anchor hits a target the first stage launches out spring loaded grappling claws to hold itself in place and right itself to a 90 degree angle to the surface. Stage two fires ether a drill or backways facing barred spike into the target to lock in place. Some pilots use them to aid in movement while others use them aid in attaching to enemies and holding them down. Note: The anchors also have a quick release to cut the line just in case a massive body uses the line to sling you around.

Electromagnetic Round - This is a relatively small but powerful for it's size electromagnet that is covered in a fast acting contact sensitive adhesive allowing it to stick to things it is fired to. When used against electrical and mechanical devices the powerful magnetic field the magnet generates can disrupted their normal functions. But when magnet can also be used on other targets, even biological ones, as the magnetic field is also tuned to that of most commonly used charged particle and plasma weapons. Making it so the that shots fired from such weapons well bend toward the magnet lowering the risk of a shoot missing fast moving target.
Note: A common tactic for hunting parties using charged particle weapons is to have a sharp shooter first stick the magnet somewhere that would do the most damage and then have the other party members fire at the target. Even if the other party members don't have accurate weapons or just bad aim, as long as they are able to get the shot within rage of the magnetic field it will be drawn into to the right spot.

Delayed Scatter Shot - In short this round is like a shotgun shell but the casing is fired out of the gun too. After a set amount of distance traveled or a set amount time the outer casing opens up and smaller round fan out from it. This type of round was designed to give rifleman and snipers long range crowed control abilities without the need for having a rapid fire automatic weapons. Because of this type of round one can have still have a shotgun-like effect without the need to be close to the target for it to be effective. Some law enforcement units use non-lethal versions of this type of ammo to with things like riot control.
(I'm not sure if this type of ammo exists in real life or not yet. As there are many ways you can go about making it. But you can also use the same technology that makes airburst rounds work just with a more directional shaped charge.)

flechette mortar:
similar to delayed scatter shot, but fired upwards. comes down as metal darts at terminal velocity after a couple of minutes. balance AOE, projectile density and piercing by using larger or smaller darts and different dispersal patterns.

can have rockets on the main projectile, that fire going down, to get the same velocity with a shallower arc so they arrive faster.

can put poison on the darts. they're released by the rotation of the main projectile, so they experience less heat than a traditional bullet. if the poison doesn't hurt your own side, really low dart size could be used without fear of friendly fire.

use darts made of magnetic metal if you want them to be easily be cleaned up and reused, for example when it's used in your own territory for pest control or intimidation of people who don't have armoured vehicles.

use low-velocity double-ended darts to quickly deploy caltrops, e.g. to make an area difficult to cross for crawling people and large wildlife with paws, or to discourage grazing to preserve vegetation.

glued sensors:
omnidirectional or rotating sensors of different types, inside sticky spheres, that wirelessly send their data to a supercomputer to create a 3d map of an area. disperse by throwing them at walls, or as a cluster grenade.

breaching shell:
extremely accurate armour-piercing shots. meant to be fired to bore a path through a forest or non-military building, to provide a path for gas or high explosive rounds made to have similar flight paths. each contains a small explosive to self-destruct after it's stopped, clearing the way for the next shot.

indoor smart flak:
low-velocity fragmentation shell with a timed fuse. casing is built from standardized fragments of two different types: real ones and ones that shatter to dust on detonation. casing is assembled right before firing, and this results in a explosive that can explode in the middle of a room and shoot fragments in some directions and dust in others. useful for fighting large amounts of soft combatants in an environment where you want to spare specific parts, e.g. hostage situations with humans or large, delicate items as hostages.

This idea is from a friend of mine and I just had to share it because it is both funny and cool.

Rocket Powered A.I. Controlled Boomerang - This massive boomerang is designed to be thrown by hand from mecha. There are built-in rockets inside of the boomerang to give it more spin and power after it is thrown. When it is thrown the A.I. and control the flight path and speed of the spin. There are two types of boomerang a blunt type that acts like a flying hammer and a blade type that can cut things as it flies. Going by the style of boomerang they can also be good melee weapons. Although it is advised that if you are going to use them as melee weapons as well as thrown weapons than the traditional style of boomerangs work best because of their shape and you can use the rockets just before the moment of impact for more damage. The boomerangs with 3 or more fins/wings are better at flying than they are at melee because of their shape.
Note: A common tactic that is used on smarter targets or ones with high awareness is throw the boomerang in a way that of you do miss that you have another chance on the return path. So it is a good idea to try and keep the target's focus on you so they don't notice the boomerang comes back to hit them from behind.

*Craftable/Consumable Directed-energy weapon (DEW) and nuclear missiles shot from orbit.
Expensive solution to a dicey situation.

*any weapon from unreal tournament.

*I will always have a soft spot for instagib + hook

What's about the splash damage from our jets. Because there are not many games that actually take into account the force and heat made by jet and rocket engines to the point that you can use them to hurt enemies. And this is not even counting the dust, rocks, other debris being heat up and thrown by the exhaust.

Your thought on anchoring to the ground made me wonder when timing the full force of your thrusters could damage in the area from above since you are held in place or swing around with 1 anchor point to even come in with a circle of destructive debris pushed away as you continue like a mini cyclone

Yes, and it also opens up the window of you being able to burn and hurt enemies just by getting close enough to them and pointing your thrusters at them. So not only are they being pushed away by the force of the thrust but also taking heat damage by the flames and exhaust. This could also mean that if you know how to hover in place you can burn things under you while flying. Or anchoring yourself to the ground and putting your thrusters on full blast push enemies into walls or rocks pinning them in place while you also burning/cooking them alive. And pushing enemies off things like cliffs with the force of the thrusters.

There is a reason why in real life to don't have rocket pads near places where people live. And why rocket testing areas are these massive heavy buildings anchored into the ground to keep the rocket and building from moving as they do stress tests.

This also why in the more realistic sic-fi when they show mecha or air/space craft flying, landing, or taking off in a city you see things like people, cars, and other things being pushed around and sent flying as if a bomb as gone off. Because... well that is what rockets are. They are basically reusable bombs where all the force of the explosion is focused in one direction.

That reminds me of an idea where if you could attach 3D hologram projector onto things like bullets and missiles you could make them look like anything you wanted. And sure some people would use them to do things like make the missiles and mines blind into the background so they are harder to see. But you know there are going to be some of us going to do things like making missiles that look like a flaming screaming skulls or a train or a steam roller or a sexy magical anime girl riding a broomstick. You get my point. Although I can also seem people using that to almost make decoys. Like if you are hiding or trapped somewhere, make a missile that looks like you and have it fly away so the enemy chases it.
