in today's chief chat it was mentioned that an in game name for the knee biters was needed so i figured id make a post here for suggestions.

personally i like the name "Hives" or "Hivers" since the way they attack the bigger frames and the Thumpers reminds me of how bees suffocate invaders in their hives to death by covering them, or how ants swarm their prey, i also like it because of how many there are, no other species has the amount of manpower as hive-minds do, and maybe in the lore they could of originally been a form of ant from the world of the Kaiju.

But that's just my suggestion, i saw loads of other great suggestions on the discord, one of my personal favourites was "Locusts" so what are your ideas?

I'm just waking up with no coffee yet. So I'm pretty useless for this at the moment. I do like the concept of the easier sounding names like Hivers and Locusts. Rolls off the tongue easily for troops to call out over comms. Wonder if down the road there would be a more scientific name Grummz could add in the lore via the book.

Posting the concept art for them would help motivate people too.

grummz said that the names we're coming up with are just the nicknames the troops give, so the scientific names would be something else i assume

Knee biter here's a screen shot it made me think of this name.
kneebiter.png

Exo-Shrikes

Exo = Outside / Outer part
Shrikes = predaceous oscine birds of the family Laniidae, having a strong, hooked & tooth bill

I can imagine that if the Knee biters alert cry when a hunting pack needs more reinforcements.

This sounds good especially @ 4secs -5 secs with the fluttering and near the end with the fizzing sound before it despawns

I still like kneebiters as a Gatestrider slang, but if it were to change, two suggestions.
1. A name referencing their numbers, like a myriad or a drove

2. Something like the Aranhas, which is like Aranae (spider). You could go for:
a) the wolf spider, the Lycosii, which would be Melee only versions of the kneebiters.
b) the brown recluse, the Sicarii, for kneebiters that have an armour-sundering/acidic/necrosis effect. (this does have an unintended historical context)
c) the tarantula, the Theraphosi, the very large kneebiters
d) the jumping spider, the Saltici, who leap extra great distances to shred airborne frames and craft
e) the ray spiders, the Theridi, who specialise in shooting beams

In case 2, that would be their sub-names, whereas their species could be referred as 'spinners', in reference to the etymology of 'spider'. And that they're on you so fast it'll make your head spin!

What if the turret spider where like motars but instead of exploding the main spider would launch the carrier spider with micro spiders in some kind of container on its back. Then when high enough would release the other micro spiders for them to cluster out from the main carrier spider.

So finding those sneaky turret spider launchers would be important too and help those gliding otherwise they are for some flying spider surprise!

That makes me think of egg sacks which... This GIF I'll place in a spoiler for the arachnophobes in the thread.
A heavy frame being struck with one of these at long range and breaking open when shot would be enough to keep the Reapers off-world I'd say.

I think you are thinking a little to small scale here. Because again I'll point to some thing that happens in real life in some parts of the world. It rains spiders from time to time.

Crazy and fun idea. Spidernados lol

Personally, I want to call them Scamps.

They Scamper around like a wild pack of dogs.

That and the Heavy Omni-frames will be able to make the mini game "Scamp Stamp"

How many Scamps can they crush under foot? The winner, with the most Tsi-hu goo stuck to the sole of their boot can be called the Scamp Stamp Champ!

........*Cough* anyway...

Now for an official name. Something Scientific;
1 Tsi-hu
2 Sarcophilus harrisii (Scientific term for Tasmanian devil)
3 Canis Diabolus (playing on the fact they look like little Diablos)

After contemplating this for probably too long and mixing around a few ideas, I choose:

Tsi-hu Devil Dogs
