I was thinking about this after talking about things like super structures and mega structures with family. Now we was talking about real life super structures as long with things are still trying to work on now, like orbital elevators, space colonies, and floating cities on the water. But this also made me think about giant super structures in games movies and games. With some of the most famous ones that everyone knows of the Deathstar from Star Wars and the massive ships from Macross what was just as much a flying city as they was flying weapons. And I was thinking about other massive bases / cities in movies and games that are also basically giant vehicles, and/or weapons, and/or mecha.

And then I thought about this game and about the CAT5 weapons/monsters beyond the portals. Something like that will not and can not be ignored by the ruling pollical parties in the game. Even if they all hated each other they would all still agree on and work together on ways of countering or stopping the threat of the CAT5's. But it would be a project that is to big for any one group of people to do alone and so everyone would have to pull together to build it and make it happen. Just the number of resources and man power alone would be massive and might take generations to fully build going by the scale of things. And than I remembered the events in games like FireFall and Warframe where the players was tasked to build things like the battleship from FireFall and the Relaies in Warframe. I also remember other things where players would pay taxes to the faction they was on to help pay for buffs as will as to build a massive flag ship / mothership in the faction vs faction battles every few weeks (this only really worked in games where there was player governments where every week or two players would vote for other players to be things like the president and other government workers. Giving them the power to do things like set taxes for things and using they tax money to pay for events and faction buffs on top of other things.).

And so I was thinking could we do something like that in this game? And how many super structures would we need to fight off all the different CAT5's? What are some ideas for a super structure would you like to see if the Humans made one?

I for one always loved the idea of Alexander from the Final Fantasy games. A massive city turned into a defensive weapon. It's main goal is to protect the people but it can also do massive damage if needed. This why in a lot of the game Alexander looks like a living building (namely a castle or fort). So what if we had a city like Alexander on Em-8er?

For the people who don't know what Alexander is.

I also think we need to have at least one massive weapon in orbit around Em-8er too. Although I have not put much thought in to what kind weapon it would be or what it would look like. Funny thing is there also a few orbital weapons within some of the Final Fantasy games. Like Ultima.

This is a really cool idea, in my opinion, It would be awesome if there were larger structures or entities we could contribute resources towards. Which help achieve different goals. Like a CAT5 Mecha, which could go head to head against a CAT5 Kai-ju.

And when they go "head to head", it creates an intense world event that changes the voxel terrain. So as the CAT5's are going at it, the players have to battle the surrounding Tsi-hu and Kai-ju hordes!

I don’t see a mobile mech version of anything with the idea of our T.H.M.P.R. already being a fighting mech. But, I love your thoughts if they tend towards a base that everyone can invest in ala Macross style. To see mini guns with tracers, rockets and lasers firing away while we are flying and gliding around a CAT5 kaiju will be amazing.

its Something i discuss fews times in my topics (AI , Warfront , Craft)

1 - Dynamic World Event.... in most game case event itself reset after while , in this case if one base/warfront fall , or AI/Enemy or Player need rebuild , to rebuild you need materials , this materials come from escort Construction Wares Transport from A to B or Hauling by yourself... and this rule also applied to AI , and this quests are dynamic assigned in areas

2 - And Yes some edge Mech/Tank/Mega Structure/Orbital Strike that need huge ammount material and can be destroy / disable , use same rule as World Dynamic , Aka Cardinal System , Ai Director , Support System AI , its other reason i rely push AI a first priority... if players can do.... ai need can handle as well

Its why i not fan of linear story telling or handcraft dev story telling , but world that shift in constant player story.... all servers(to be fair i believe this point only going exist one NA and one EU ) be complet other experience

So the question might be, will/can there be other mechs on the field other than the T.H.M.P.R.? The mining-mechs are primarily mining-mechs, what about the potential of fighting-mechs? We are at war after all.

Nothing on todays table for it. See this project successful and it should be included into a milestone down the road.

*edit*
To think further, smaller mechs could have a farther distance to the operations area. I stand by these mobile suits (had to, sue me) need to be defensive only. Not some kind of Diablo companion. Would also like to see they aren’t automatic either. Systems would have to be engaged by a player. Depending on the base construction, they could have increases to duration, health pool, shielding etc with the idea of certain buildings/tech that particular base has. If it is a larger clan base, limit it to one perk per unit.

Well given how CAT5's are the about the size of small mountains in scale any super structures that the Humans build would also have to on the scale too or at least match the power of something that can destroy whole mountains. It is why I was leaning towards the idea of things like cities and forts turning into weapons. Because when not in use people would just live inside of it like normal. Just like with the ships in things like Macross where despite the ships themselves being things like battleships there still large cities within them where people live normal lives and rise families.

In some stories these massive super weapons was built around the cities. Often time starting off as walled city and over time the wall being stronger as times change the threats to the people become larger. And weapons are added to keep enemies from getting inside. This is the more natural and realistic way these massive city size weapons come about. As this is what some people really did in the past and why some cities even to this day are both real places as well as part mythical. Like how Final Fantasy use the stories of the city of Alexander as a base for the summon of the same name. Or how in things like the Fate games and stories The Gate of Babylon is one of the most powerful things. Or like how in Megiddo over the generations was mistranslated into Armageddon. That is right people Armageddon is a real life place you can go to even to this day, not an event. And learn about the history of the place and how forts have been built on to of forts for many generations turning a hill into a mountain. And in some fictional stories they start with a giant weapon and than build a city around the weapon. Although to me this only really makes sense in ether a sci-fi setting building things in orbit or in fantasy setting dealing with things like giant weapons once used by gods or god-like beings.

I like the idea of these massive weapons not being used as weapons most of the time. But as things or places people live in and work on knowing that they and their families are safe if such a time happens that they do come under attack. Because to me that is the only logical way to keep something that big in working order and trusting that it'll never fail. It also means that you could view the people living and working inside of such places as cells within a body. With the people who control how the thing moves and fights as being like brain cells and people that are a part of things like the repair crew and security team being part of the immune system. It sounds funny, but this is how some people view real life cities and nations. This is why when some people talk about the state of things or the well being of an area they tend to do so as if they are talking about a living being and the health of a body.

Anyway, it would be nice if there was an raid on such a city where as we was fighting off the smaller enemies the city itself would be focused on fighting the giant enemy attacking it. Kind like this moment in Final Fantasy 9, Bahamut Vs Alexander.

This was been spitballed in a Chief Chat a while back. Grummz said maybe it would be interesting as something which could be authorized for use in major base invasions.

In that same CC we also joked about Voltron, to which he added something like "yeah but you'll each to try to control your own bit". :)

The funny thing is I've played a few games where players had to do that. They was mostly sci-fi games with ship to ship battles. And things like large guild/alliance ships or the Flag ships needed more than one player to control fully. You needed one person to pilot it, and other players to man the weapons, a player to manage things like ammo and energy, and captain to give orders everyone and keep track of the battle as the flag ships was only used in massive large scale battles with 100+ players on top of the NPCs who might also be in the battle. So having different people control different parts of a super weapon and/or manage different systems within the weapon is not nothing new to people like who are us to playing games with large ship to ship battles.

And given the scale of some of the things I'm thinking about. Again, some of the super weapons are the size of whole cities. Needing a sizable group of people to fully control the thing just makes sense. Where every job is important and fun. For even the people who are in engineering tasked with keeping thing repaired, reloading ammo, and managing energy levels so the main weapons and shields can be used are key players. They might not be outside fighting things personally or manning one of the turrets, but they have their own battles to deal with just trying to keep everything running.
