I spent so long trying to choose names that people would realistically say. I do hope, however, that the name doesn't imply that they are just mindless beasts.

If there is two clocks and alarm system, I think the local time should be easy to distinguish from the server time. I don't want to be getting confused. I like the idea, though.

What if when there are multiple players, there is somehow multiple beasts to fend off. This might help when so many people are involved that the boss made tougher is just unrealistic.

Perhaps a manual lock and some crank (or something that gives mechanical advantage) to open. It wouldn't be the default means of opening, of course. Perhaps it could take extra time to open manually, which would leave player vulnerable because they can't focus on anything else until it's open.

Yes, this is how military works. If implemented correctly, it leads to an efficient means of getting things done. If there is truly going to be war, this is how I'd have it. The question is whether or not players would cooperate.
