Free2Play arena shooter games that are skill based.

Battleborn.
It's a skill based arena shooter that requires players to work together to complete goals within an arena of waves of PvE combat.
You deal with both flying and non-flying characters that have both AOE and non-AOE attacks.
Maps are large.

Same as above except the maps are smaller, the characters are beefier and while there is comparisons to Overwatch from trolls, it's really more similar to Team Fortress 2.

Team Fortress 2
It's skill based. People with high skill can wreck people that have the best unique gear.

Arena shooters game that is skill based and have flight in it and that you have to pay for.

Titanfall 2.
It's MP can be additive as you get more skilled which isn't hard to do.

All the weapons in the game is now viable options. There has quite a few updates.
Some weapons are hitscans and some are projectiles. Both types is usable.
Once you learn to fly, you never stop trying to get better at it. Once you learn to fly + kill, then it gets truly addictive.

Overwatch.
It's TF2 + Disney characters + small maps.

Would be nice if we could get some official info about how recoil, weapon spread and weapon handling are supposed to work.

i.e. comparing it to stuff like
-Planetside 2 weapon handling
-CoD campaign weapon handling
-CoD multiplayer weapon handling
-Battlefield weapon handling

(obviously, in the end, the enemy movement pattern would matter as well)

Depends on what class you'll play, if you intend to go recon, sniper elite games are at a discount on steam rn, otherwise i'd say Killing floor 2 is a good choice.
I need to get playing again

Given that Ember is a skill based shooter...and given that we have 1-2 years before we play...I was hoping to up my skills. Turns out i'm a little rusty. Any suggestions?
Me too & this preparation is a good plan

Ember weapon handling = FireFall weapon handling = Quake 3 weapon handling.
Your answer is on the far right.

For a single-player, try Borderlands 2. Mad mad fun. It also has a superpower mechanic, to get you used to that concept in a simple way.

I've played some Mass Effect: Andromeda, which does have superpowers, but it's not recommended at all. What a crap game.
