WTF does that have to do with anything? Am I the only one who read Ronyn say he thought it was a solid idea way back on page 3? Did he ever say you're idea wouldn't work?

Like it or not. The original argument was that a damper on power-creep and a functional economy was not "possible", better yet, impossible. The original argument was that you all supported horizontal progression yet all you cared about was MOAR POW aka vertical progression.

This is not only cognitive dissonance but how to exploit it. At the end you all agreed with my original points and even convinced yourselves than i was the one going bonkers and you came up with it.

lAnyway, it's interesting to have these conversations about whether there should be any form of durability, or whether things should break or not. It's mostly to gauge community mindset on the issue. In truth the question was settled months ago in July. It was important to us that we were up front about how we were going to handle an issue that had such controversy in the past. As some folks want it one way, and other folks another way. That is why it plainly states in the initial indiegogo campaign "Durability: Items will not break, but will need to be repaired (at less resource cost than what it was to make)."

Is it possible there will be some change to that? Sure, to some degree. But most likely it would be in small ways, not likely to the degree of the one extreme of getting rid of durability entirely or the other extreme of having gear perma-break.
Things break= treadmill. Things don't break, powercreep. It's not rocket science.

Ah whatever. I'm on a crapton of painkillers. There's not a piece of furniture i didn't bump over in my home by now. It's cool. My doctor said i need it. Not fun though, apathy is boring.

Still stand by everytthing i wrote though, could have chosen my words more carefully.

However, that was not my message. That was not my original argument. As, again, I do not buy into the premise you set. Clearly my attempt to teach has fallen short. I will leave it be then. There is nothing else for me to say.

Yeah, whatever. As i said it's the best i could come up with as a compromise. MMO players as in massively multiplayer online games need a carrot. So i still stand by craft break cycle, consumables or permanent power increase. If you have a better example you're allowed to share it.

I make no excuse for my rudeness but your "teaching" remark was kinda condescending. It comes from a place where the only option i have is to admit i'm wrong. I doubt that. Doesn't mean i'm right either.

Try to ignore my occasional incoherent ramblings. But for me the argument was not the validity of the compromise but whether or not they could help prevent or at least lessen the effect of powercreep. I'm also not the first person to make this argument.

This is also not the first time we had these discussions on the forums. Your original statement was that preventing powercreep and a healthy economy are two different distinct things, we've had debate after debate over this many times. I argued for, you argued against, my memory is pretty good.

That's what i was debating.

Yeah i know. But the people designing FF were game designers too. The perk system could have made for a perfect potion system. I don't even mean potion system i mean enchanted gem system. They could have kept their vertical progression but based a healthy economy based on enchanted gems. Thumpers would have had something to do, crafters (enchanters) could have had something to do.

Maybe i'm just not knowledgeable enough but i still feel this could have solved so many problems FF faced and make everyone not happy but at least content and busy.

There's probably something i'm not getting but come on, they catered only to the leveling people, even the paragon system was inherently broken, this even broke the economy. I'm not arguing i'm smarter than the designers who designed that system but come on. Meet your player base half way.

Potions or enchantments are not uncommon in MMOs. They just never gave it a shot.

Blind trust of game devs is what got FF in the mess it is in today.

Basically gems can be refueled. (Think Skyrim's enchanted items) This costs little resources; low quality resources. However you can choose to overload them. Overloading drains the durability of the gem. So just like with gear breakage they eventually break. Let's say that there's two stages of overloading (or even more, depending on your level). One breaks it slowly, the second breaks it faster but the power increase is more potent. Not overloading them only requires you to refuel them, they don't break.

The higher level the gem, the more it costs to replace it if you break it.

Replacing them costs more expensive resources. So if you're poor, you'll choose not to overload them, if you're moderately wealthy you only choose to overcharge them in certain situations, if you're loaded and a bit of a showoff, you'll just go full out most of the time. If for no other reason than a status symbol. BUT this will be very costly.

The more money you have, the more you'll spend. It's like a tax on the rich.

The FF perk's system already is an enchanted gem system, it just doesn't drain, you don't have to replenish it. This is where i believe FF's designers made their biggest mistake going to 1.0. They could have kept decay without breaking gear.

Simply by replacing them with a cool version of "consumables"

Again, it's the best i can come up with so far. The best i can hope for is that a game designer reads this and goes: not a bad idea but it can be improved upon.

It's not so much magic. It's like crystite. Gems are just a term i use to describe something that is easily understood. If i'd say "advanced reactors powered by a futuristic power source", it'll be a little harder to understand, won't you agree?

They're analogies. Systems that have been proven to work.

I try to keep it as simple as i can.
