Yes, we would do an online system for feedback.

Firefall got into trouble early with its beta policy of always being on 24/7 in early beta (too early!) and promising never to wipe chars. This combo created a huge issue for designers as systems were not just ready to promise or keep up with this.

Ember will have weekend testing or other forms of reasonable limits restricted to backers, and won't start a general beta until much later. Progress will be wiped before launch on anything but the PTS servers, most likely.

The next funding goal will include 3D modeling of much of the content art produced so far.

Yep, the idea is to crowdfund in in small, deliverable sections that demonstrate progress and build confidence over time. Its actually identical to how publishers to it. Publishers pay every month or two, and only if the work has progressed to a satisfactory degree. Except now, the gamers are acting in this role.

Also its true, we have no game yet. We didn't think we'd get this far, this fast. You guys all took us by surprise. What started as a petition to gauge interest has, in less than 30 days, resulted in the community demanding and funding a website, top tier forums with mods, and full concept art for the key resource encounter (player, frame, T.H.M.P.R., alien enemy).

So now we're working on the next phase. With the demand I'm seeing, I'm happy to put another milestone of work into the game design and more concrete explanations of how we will translate the key concepts of Firefall into tangible things in Ember. This won't happen overnight, but with our step by step funding and growing of interest and the community, I'm beginning to think we can get there.

Yes and it's covered. There is far more involved in the churning economy of war than just what we wear on our body.
Perma-break exists on a great many things in the game that will need to be replaced time and again....
just not the players primary gear.

Remember guys. Ember will feature horizontal progression. There is no "Top notch" stuff. Progression is about unlocking more options, not inherently better ones.

But as I explained earlier in the thread: Gear will take damage and need resources repair but will not perma-break. However there will be various other things such as buildings and assorted call downs that can and will be destroyed that will serve as the thing that needs to be built and rebuilt indefinitely.

Science fiction is about hypothetical advancements in technology and strange discoveries. Consider that incendiary ammunition and high-explosive incendiary rounds exist, and that there have been folks working on creating a sort of "shock round" or electric bullets for many years. Not to mention what technology may come from the inherently unpredictable interaction with alien planets and species. One has to acknowledge that in the context of science fiction (theoretical advanced technology and alien tech) elemental ammo is not one of the more far fetched ideas.

The basic assumption of Sci Fi is that we have advanced beyond what we have now. The farther we go forward the more advancements we should expect. What we know now acts as a certain tether, a grounding ideal so to speak, but we have to expect that what is considered outlandish today will be commonplace in the future. History has taught us that.

Whether one likes the idea of elemental rounds or not is a separate issue of course.

The ore is stored in the magnetically leashed ore sphere in the lower right of concept. The orb also serves as a landing shield for the T.H.M.P.R.

Hi, I'm curious about a few things. When we talk about recoil, there are several things as designers that we do:

    1) Barrel climb. This is a steady rise of the barrel after each round. The barrel come back to neutral on slower firing weapons, and "climbs" on full auto weapons. CS:GO has this.

    2) Spread & Jitter. This is how the "cone of fire" where you bullets may land randomly in that cone, the random aspect being the "jitter" and can be fully random or weighted towards the center, for example. The more you fire continuously, the more Spread & Jitter grows. Sometimes, this is done whey you jump or bunny-hop, to discourage this type of movement.

    3) Screen Shake: This is where we shake the screen for a few frames and a few pixels up/down/left/right and tilt. We do all this without moving your actual aim point. This is often to convey the power and feeling of firing a weapon, without changing your aim.

*Some* or all of these are necessary to convey the feeling of more powerful weapons or to make the act of firing a weapon feel good and satisfying. As CliffyB likes to say, a good weapon feels good just firing at a blank wall.

My own inclination is to not have CS:GO style recoil on everything (in fact, on nothing or highly moderated for some weapons). But in some cases it will be there. Spread and Jitter will likely be far less prevalent than in FF. Screen shake, just a little, is still necessary IMHO for slower firing powerful weapons, or they just don't feel good to shoot or feel powerful.

One thing you will def see much less of: Bullet sponges. In FF, enemies took too many bullets in Beta to kill, which gets boring. I'd rather have you dispatch more creatures than sit there taking 1.5 clips of an assault gun to kill an Arahana. In cases were we do have higher HP monsters, you will see progressive damage so its more saisfying and you see progress even if they take a lot of bullets.

    Heya Vlad
The exact Art style is still being decided on. Some of the firefall-esque Udon Style may still be a part of it but at least some clear differences are likely.

    For what it's worth...
Classes or roles do not inherently have to mean the mmo trinity. There are many ways roles on the battlefield.

Also a modular/free build system does not mean that the equivalent of classes won't be available. And it certainly doesn't prevent building for certain specific combat roles.
