    Unreal makes it a lot easier for the possibility of custom gun attachments. In the old FF tools, supporting more polygons/texture space on weapons was a huge issue. It honestly couldn’t really be done. Characters had the same issue.


    With Unreal, we will be building this game from a toolset that already allows for customization, basically out of the box. This is thanks to not only sockets, but how their whole support pipeline for animation/bones/meshes talk to each other is broad to say the least. I don't think a certain level of customization is out of the question. I don’t think taking it at least a couple steps further than FF is out of the question. How deep weapon customization goes is still more than a few conversations away. Pouring out ideas like you guys do though is helpful. :)


    I want to push for customization of both frames/guns personally if I can. Unreal is already set up to do it basically. It's a matter of internal resources, and what the most immediate milestones need to look like.

    Vertical space was hugely important. I agree, with an ability to go vertically, there should be level/world design that supports it.

    I did a test making a simple demo in unity, and the exact version in unreal. From scratch(By this I mean, I used out of the box unity. I didn't grab any scripts/mods beforehand.)

    Unreal was superior imo. It was just easier to cruze through. Including importing a custom character basically on the fly. Unity is a great tool, it just has to many steps to do things that are very basic in standalone unreal.

    @Joe Solo, @Tommaso Renieri and I are the only public members. Others have jobs that conflict and are available part-time to help with this or that. We have around 7 part time ex-Red 5'rs standing by to help.

    Speaking for myself, I rather enjoy deep customization. So the more a games crafting system allows me to build things to my very particular specifications the more I enjoy it. The happier I am. I never found WOW's crafting system up to that task.
    Though I have had a lot of enjoyment out of the weapon buidling in games like loadout and dead space 3. I have also had a lot of enjoyment out of mech games and car games where I was able to tune my machine to my unique specifications.
    That in mind I would personally ask for deep crafting/customization system regardless of how it did or did not tie into the games larger economic model.

    We should all keep in mind that Ember is being built under the "Shooter first" Mantra. The other features will be extremely important but at this time there is no sign that they are ever meant to become a complete play-style in themselves.

    SWG, for example, had some pretty different design goals in mind. We should manage our expectations accordingly.

    I could debate some of the statements made regarding number 1 but...
    ....since the goal for Ember is to more-or-less cover the general ideas expressed in number 2 I'd like to think you should be rather pleased with the planned economic model as it comes to be.

    I think this leads to two important questions.
    1: Has a "crafter driven economy" been announced as one of the design goals?
    2: If so, would the continuous crafting of various destroyable call downs and buildings potentially fulfill that need?

    In addition to the crafting of gear and weaponry that won't break....
    Expect to see the resources used in the creation and replacing of the various call downs and buildings that can and will be destroyed.

    I want an open world, mobility heavy, shooter first game focused of skill based combat and true horizontal customization....and a dynamic mission structure!....with a crafting and resource collection based economic model that is built to encourage those core design goals as opposed to pulling away from them.
